I bought this mostly for the pics and while they are ok, can't say anything equalled what I found on the web. The author's focus was on people more than architecture (and I wanted the opposite) which didn't help either. There are very few pics of Sana'a, the old town gem. The text is simple and straight forward, so this might be best for high schoolers just wanting a glimpse.
Its hard to find a good book on yemen. This one is full of beautifull pictures, and has useful maps and illustrations. All we ever hear about the middle east is negativity so I recommend this book to anyone who wants to expand their veiw. The book has great pictures of the mountains, canyons(wadis) and monuments that make Yemen so beautiful.

The book has wonderful pictures, and it’s about a fascinating part of the world. The text, however, is mediocre – poorly structured and poorly edited. Topics change without warning or transition from paragraph to paragraph, and there’s a general lack of organization and flow. A long section on coffee, for example, occurs without warning amid a section about a highland region, and then ends as abruptly. The overall effect is disorienting and frustrating. It’s a great book in which to look at pictures, but not a great one to read. A good editor would have sculpted the authors’ enthusiasm and insight into a better book.
Exquisitely photographed, this is a wondrous book to behold. It has enough text to make the pictures interesting, and is well worth reading even if you're illiterate, for the beauty of the pictures, and the stories they tell. I recognized many places in my travels, and found many places I still hope to travel too. The only thing missing would be some pictures of the unique island of Suqutra, although there are a few paragraphs of text about it. This book is for any lover of Yemen, or anyone interested in finding out more about this amazing country.
